TENS Machine

TENS Machine

TENS is a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) device used to alleviate pain by sending electrical impulses through the skin to the affected area of your body.

How is TENS helpful?

TENS can help alleviate pain in a couple of ways.
  • The electrical impulse helps reset the nervous system by stimulating the non-pain receptor nerves that interfere or block pain messages being transmitted to the spinal cord and brain. While this is often a temporary reset, the pain free period the patient has as a result of the TENS allows the patients to perform their corrective exercises pain-free which aids in faster recovery. Truth is TENS alone does not cure pain/condition but using it with our holistic approach will aid significantly with the patient’s recovery.
  • The electrical impulses also stimulate the body to produce endorphins which are natural pain relievers which the naturally body produces but at a faster rate.

The machine comes with pads that are attached directly onto the skin where the direct cause of pain is which will be determined beforehand by the Myotherapist’s initial assessment.

Utilisation of the TENS device coupled with our other treatment modalities will achieve great results in alleviating pain and accelerating recovery.

Here at the clinic we use TENS to address lower back pain, neck pain, headaches, muscles spasms, migraines, tennis elbow, TMJ pain, sciatic pain and so much more.
